Dr. Susan Lim Recognized By Tatler Magazine For Her Passion For Innovation
There are many words that can be used to describe Dr. Susan Lim including caring, compassionate and hard-working. Along with these, she is also known as a pioneer, intellectual and innovator. It was her passion for innovation that made her stand out from the rest in Tatler Magazine's Who's Who. Her work goes far beyond performing the first liver transplant in Asia. However, this was the initial step for Dr. Susan Lim's surgery experience that would lead to new innovative ideas to improve transplantation, cure disease and leave the world healthier.
In an interview with Tatler Magazine, Dr. Susan Lim of Singapore shared that she stayed focused on her dreams and her desire to make a difference in the world from the age of seven. She knew that it would take hard work and perseverance. Awards and scholarships allowed her to make her way to the United Kingdom to study at the University of Cambridge. While there, she studied under Sir Roy Calne, the first to perform a liver transplant in Europe and the UK. Her determination and experience led to the opportunity to be the first person to perform a successful liver transplant in Asia.
Continued Innovation - Dr. Susan Lim
Surgery and transplantation can be damaging to the body in itself. As a result, Dr. Susan Lim has set out to find solutions to improve recovery time and decrease the invasiveness of surgery. Dr. Susan Lim led a team that pioneered the use of robotics in general surgery in Singapore. Her work in this field was recognized by the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education, and an award was created in her name. She also established Stem Cell Technologies (i) targeting adult stem cells harvested from fat in order to produce insulin-secreting cells to cure diabetes.
Dr. Susan Lim of Singapore will continue to pursue innovation to make surgery better for everyone, and one day she hopes to unlock the reparative value that stem cells hold.
